Frequently Asked Questions
Booking a Session & How It Works
What subjects do you currently cover?
We currently specialise in the Maths and Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths) for GCSE, A-Level and 1st Year University, as well as University Admissions support including Personal Statement Feedback and Mock Interviews for Biosciences. We are working hard to expand into other subjects such as the Humanities very soon – watch this space!
Can I book a session instantly?
Not quite yet! We operate similarly to booking a GP appointment. When you reach out to us, we will provide you with the next available session timings. If you have a specific date and time in mind, let us know and we will try our absolute best to accommodate it. We are working hard to make instant, same-day bookings a standard feature in the future.
Is 20 minutes really enough time to learn something?
Absolutely. In fact, research into “micro-learning” shows that short, high-intensity bursts of focus are often more effective for long-term retention than hour-long sessions where attention drifts.
Because our sessions are query-led (you bring the specific problem), we skip the small talk and get straight to the solution. It is the perfect amount of time to get “unstuck” on a homework task or master a single exam concept without burnout and our sessions more easily fit into busy schedules!
Can I book back-to-back or 1 hour lessons?
Currently, it is not possible to book back-to-back short-form sessions. Our 20-minute format is designed to be a high-intensity “burst” of learning. We find students retain information better when they take a break to digest the material before starting a new topic. If you need more help, you can request another slot for later in the day.
If you prefer a specific tutor or would like a longer session, do contact us and let us know! You can arrange a traditional 1-hour session with a tutor, though the prices for these will depend on the tutor.
What happens if I am late to a session?
Because our sessions are short at 20 minutes, and tutors may have sessions back-to-back, we cannot extend the finish time if you arrive late. To get the full value of your session, we recommend clicking the join link 2-3 minutes early to ensure your connection is ready.
How can I reschedule a session?
We understand that plans can change! If you need to move your session, please email support@litelearn.co.uk at least 24 hours in advance, and we will happily work with you to provide alternative timings for a reschedule.
Because our tutors receive your specific questions and start preparing their lesson plan a few hours before the session, confirmed same-day bookings cannot be rescheduled. This policy ensures our tutors are always 100% prepared and compensated for the time they have committed to your child.
Technology & AI on our Platform
Do I need a webcam and microphone?
Yes, a working microphone is essential so you can speak with your tutor. We also highly recommend using a webcam, as seeing your tutor helps build a rapport and builds another avenue of communication with your tutor, but it is not strictly mandatory if you feel uncomfortable.
How do I access the platform?
Once initial contact has been made either via email or through our Contact Form, a member of the LiteLearn team will be in touch via email with your log in details. If you have not received this within a few hours and have checked your spam folder, then please do contact us at support@litelearn.co.uk
How does LiteLearn use AI?
We use our proprietary AI to generate a comprehensive Lesson Summary after every session, including a session summary, additional questions for practice and highlights of a student’s strengths and weaknesses. Your session is 100% human-led by an expert tutor, and the AI is used solely for the lesson after-care, ensuring that the impact and learning from your session continues long after the session ends.
Would AI ever replace the tutor?
We have no intention to do this currently. The teaching is always done by a qualified human. The AI acts as a teaching assistant, handling note-taking and resource creation so your tutor can focus 100% of their attention on you and your queries during the live session.
Neurodiversity & Learning Support
My child has ADHD, Autism, or additional learning needs. Is LiteLearn's format suitable?
Absolutely. In fact, many parents find that our 20-minute “micro-learning” format is often more effective for neurodiverse students than traditional hour-long tuition.
For students with ADHD, an hour can feel like a marathon, and it is hard to stay focussed for this length of time! Our 20-minute sessions are short, sharp, and high-energy, fitting perfectly within their natural window of focus. Because each session is “query-led” (the student brings the questions), your child feels in control and we can provide the exact support they need to help them become ‘unstuck’.
We focus on solving specific queries in a safe 1 on 1 environment and building critical thinking skills, giving students an immediate sense of achievement and a dopamine boost, which is vital for building confidence in their academic pursuits.
Can I share my child's learning needs with the tutor?
Of course! This is a section on our Contact Form, which is shared with the tutor. We encourage you to list anything that helps your child learn best – for example “please speak slowly,” “they might fidget,” or “they need time to process answers.” Our tutors check these notes before every session to ensure they are fully prepared to support your child.
My child has Dyslexia or finds note-taking difficult. Can you help?
This is one of the biggest benefits of LiteLearn. Your child can focus 100% on the conversation and the problem-solving, without the stress of writing anything down. Our AI Aftercare Package generates a full set of revision notes and a summary of the lesson automatically after the session ends. This removes the “cognitive load” of note-taking, making learning far more accessible.
My child has low confidence and is anxious about making mistakes. Is this suitable?
Yes, this is often where we see the biggest breakthroughs. We know that neurodiverse students can feel “put on the spot” or judged in a busy classroom. LiteLearn offers a private, judgement-free zone.
There is no peer pressure, no fear of asking a “silly question,” (we’ve heard many!) and no need to mask for a long period of time. Our tutors are trained to use positive reinforcement to turn “I can’t do this” into “I just did it,” which builds knowledge and rebuilds academic self-esteem one session at a time.
Do you teach specific exam strategies and exam technique?
Yes, this is vital! We know that students (especially neurodiverse students) often understand the subject but struggle with obtaining marks in an exam format. Our tutors don’t just teach the answer; they also guide students towards improving their exam technique. We help students learn how to “decode” wordy questions, highlight key instructions, and structure their thoughts logically. This is vital for students who process information differently and helps them translate their knowledge into marks.
Payments & Pricing
Why is there a Launch Price Promotion?
Our service has only just launched! The discounted rate is our way of saying thank you for being an early member, while we may still have some early hiccups. In return, we would greatly value any and all feedback you have to help us make this service better for you. This promotion is time limited and will end in early March.
How do I pay for my session?
Payments are taken in advance through our secure portal. Once we have responded to your booking request with a slot, you will be prompted to access the portal to complete your payment. To secure your slot, payment must be received at least 2 hours before the session starts. If we haven’t received payment by then, we will unfortunately have to cancel the session.
What is your cancellation policy?
Once confirmed, same day sessions unfortunately cannot be cancelled (though we do of course use our discretion in the case of genuine emergencies). Otherwise we do have a 24 hour cancellation policy.
What if I am not satisfied with my session?
We aim to deliver a ‘Litebulb Moment’ in every single session. If you feel technical issues disrupted your lesson or the session didn’t meet your expectations, please email us at support@litelearn.co.uk within 24 hours. We will review the session transcript and happily provide a credit or refund where appropriate.
Tutors & Safeguarding
How do we select our tutors?
We are extremely selective in who we invite to join the LiteLearn platform. We connect you with subject specialists who have not only mastered their field but have been specifically trained to deliver our unique, high-impact “Lite” sessions. Unlike other platforms, we don’t just check CVs; every tutor undergoes a strict interview process where they must demonstrate their ability to explain complex concepts simply and quickly, ensuring they can help you get “unstuck” in just 20 minutes.
Safety and expertise are our top priorities. We verify all qualifications to ensure every tutor holds a degree or is studying at a high level in the subject they teach. Furthermore, we uphold the highest safeguarding standards: every single tutor holds an Enhanced DBS check and is fully vetted before they can teach on our platform, giving you complete peace of mind.
What are our safeguarding policies?
Safeguarding is a key foundation of our platform. We operate a strict “prevention and protection” policy overseen by our Nominated Child Protection Lead, who has completed specialist safeguarding training with the NSPCC, the Police and The Tutors’ Association.
We go beyond standard vetting. Every tutor holds a verified Enhanced DBS certificate and adheres to our strict Code of Conduct. For your peace of mind, all sessions are recorded and stored securely, ensuring a transparent and safe learning environment. We have clear reporting procedures for any concerns; you can view our full Safeguarding Policy here.
Can I contact the tutor directly?
To keep everyone safe, all communication and payments must go through the LiteLearn platform. We do not share personal contact details between tutors and students. Any sharing of personal contact information could result in the suspension of an account.
How do I report a safeguarding concern?
We treat all safeguarding reports with the utmost urgency and strict confidentiality. If you have any concerns about a student’s welfare or a tutor’s conduct, please email us immediately here with “Safeguarding Concern” in the subject line.
This alert will go directly to our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), who will initiate an investigation as a matter of priority. We have a robust, confidential reporting procedure in place to protect all parties involved.
Important: If you believe a child is in immediate danger, please contact the police on 999.
